Former New York Yankees catcher Jim Leyritz received probation for a 2007 car accident that killed a woman in South Florida.
Leyritz could have received up to six months in jail for
driving under the influence. Instead, he was spared a 15 year prison sentence when a jury acquitted him of manslaughter.
"I am telling you now that if you violate probation, I will give you the maximum jail sentence," said Broward County Circuit Judge Marc Gold.
Leyritz was convicted of driving drunk in the December 2007 crash that killed 30-year-old Freida Veitch. At the time of the accident, Leyritz had a blood alcohol level of 0.14 percent, well above
Florida's legal limit of 0.08 percent.
Gold gave Leyritz a $500 fine, the maximum amount allowed by law in Florida. Leyritz also had his driver's license revoked for six months.
