A Cessna 210 single engine plane crashed in an Ogden, Utah neighborhood just before 6 p.m. Sunday, causing two homes to catch fire. Three people inside one home and two in the other escaped unharmed and firefighters extinguished the blaze. The crash left 1,700 homes in the area without power.
The pilot, who has been identified as 46-year-old Clayton Roop, was found lying near the wreckage. He suffered major injuries, including severe burns. He was coherent when he was transported to the hospital. Roop is currently in critical but stable condition.
The National Weather Service had issued a dense fog advisory in the area around the time the plane went down. The cause of the crash remains unclear. Debris was scattered across the neighborhood. The Cessna was supposed to land at the Ogden Hinckley Airport.
