Virginia police issued an Amber Alert for 12-year-old Brittany Mae Smith after finding the child’s mother dead in her Salem home. The body of Tina Smith, 41, was discovered around 9:30 a.m. Monday when her co-workers contacted police. It was soon determined that Brittany had also been missing for several days.
Authorities believe Brittany may have been kidnapped by Jeffrey Scott Easley and is in “extreme danger.” “We're concerned that her disappearance is going to be, at least a good possibility, it has something to do with the homicide," said Roanoke County police Lt. Chuck Mason.
Easley, 32, was allegedly a friend of Tina Smith. He is described as a 265-pound white male with brown hair and hazel eyes. Easley may be driving a silver 2005 Dodge Neon belonging to Tina. The 4-door vehicle has a Virginia license plate. Brittany Smith has brown hair, brown eyes and weighs about 100 pounds.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Easley and Smith are asked to call Roanoke County authorities at 540- 777-8641.
