The singer was rushed to hospital last month and had to undergo emergency surgery after suffering kidney poisoning but can’t remember much of his stint under medical care.
He said: “I’m very pleased and relieved to say that I am on the road to recovery after my health scare last week. I don’t want to go into too much detail about what was wrong with me, but I had poisoning in my kidneys and had to be operated on within two hours of being taken to hospital.
“When I woke up in the small hours of the morning last Friday, I was in agony. Honestly, I can’t even begin to tell you how painful it was. I was totally out of it and all I remember is Carl getting me to the hospital, then waking up to a surgeon saying, ‘The operation went very well, Mr. Andre.’
“It’s so great to feel better and I’ve now been given the all-clear, which is amazing. I’ve lost a few pounds and I’m now down to 153lbs, which is what I weighed at my skinniest last year. But don’t worry, I’m sure I’ll be putting some back on over Christmas.”
The ‘Behind Closed Doors’ hitmaker also thanked fans for their understanding when he was forced to cancel a concert because of his illness, and admitted he found his return to the stage bizarre as doctors had banned him from moving around too much.
He added in his column for new! magazine: “I just want to say a huge thank you to my fans for being so supportive and understanding about me having to postpone two of my gigs due to being ill. You’re incredible and I love you all.
“I did a gig at Minehead last Sunday (28.11.10) to make up for the fact that I couldn’t do the show on Saturday night (27.11.10), but it was so odd as my doctor told me I wasn’t allowed to dance. I’ve never done a gig where I just stood there before, but the audience were amazing. Luckily, I’ve been told I can move a bit more now, so it’s back to business as usual.”
