A 14-year-old boy told authorities he was a hit man for the Pacifico Sur drug cartel after being arrested last week at an airport in central Mexico. An anonymous phone tip led authorities to the airport. The teen was traveling with his two sisters to Tijuana at the time of his arrest.
The boy, who has not been identified, may be a United States citizen. He was carrying a San Diego birth certificate when he was taken into custody. Military sources say the child admitted to carrying out 4 hits at the instructions of a cartel leader. He reportedly confessed to being on drugs at the time of the killings.
Over the weekend, the U.S. State Department said it has not been determined of the boy is a U.S. citizen.
