Recently, a report came out of 4 teens age 13 and
14 being expelled or suspended from Brown Middle School in the Hillsboro School
District in Oregon for taking prescription pain killers. There was even a
suggestion of charging parents for such drug use. According to Narconon, a drug
education and rehabilitation organization, the bottom line of drug use is lack
of effective drug education in schools and society.
If children knew the true
risks of drug use, not just "they'll get in trouble", they would be
far less likely to use drugs to begin with, according to Narconon Freedom Center, a drug
rehabilitation and education organization in Michigan. In fact, studies show
that Narconon drug education in schools drastically
reduced the rate of children going onto drugs as well as changing the viewpoint
children have about drugs in general.
As Narconon explains in it's
drug education lectures, all drugs are poisons, the amount taken determines the
effect. In the lectures, which are done in a reality level that really reaches
kids, kids learn this fact as well as what drugs actually do in the body when
taken and the inevitable consequences. As those who have been addicted to drugs
can attest, there are always inevitably consequences. One consequence often
overlooked is addiction can start after just one hit.
Once children have the full
picture with Narconon drug education materials,
they are then able to make an informed choice about taking drugs. Drugs cease
to be "cool" but fall into their proper perspective.
The "solution" of
charging parents of students on drugs is a topic which will no doubt be
debated. However, a simpler solution is to educate both the children and
parents about drugs and drug abuse. When a situation arises where drug
education was skipped and the child does go on to become addicted, there is
safe effective drug-free withdrawal and rehabilitation available at Narconon.
A child or teen turning to
drugs indicates several issues going on in the child or teens life already. The
broad scale promotion of drugs in today's society is a factor. The idolizing of
drugs through modern celebrity drug use is another factor. Add to that peer
pressure, insecurity, social and other demands, drugs often are sought as a
"solution" to the situation. Real solutions are available and it is
important for children to know not only those solutions but also the truth about
drugs so drugs are never looked on as the answer.
