Emmanuel Reyes, 26, a former assistant manager at the WTC Visitor Center was sentenced to six months in New York State prison on Monday for stealing $12,700 from the charity, prosecutors said.
Reyes, was caught after an internal audit was launched when money was noticed missing at the center. To cover up the thefts between August 2009 and February, Reyes doctored up the records by entering fake refund transactions into the register, officials said.
He was ordered to repay the cash. He also faces five years of probation.
Reyes, who previously told cops he stole the money to repay a loan he took from a neighborhood thug to cover his mother's funeral expenses, made no apologies when being sentenced.
