Kirsten Dunst says her time in rehab was “awful”.
The 28-year-old actress checked herself into the Cirque Lodge Treatment
Centre, in Utah, to be treated for depression in February 2008 and
admits the experience had a terrible effect on her as well as her
friends and family, who had to deny rumours she was abusing drink and
drugs.
She said: "I know what it's like to lose yourself, to no longer know
the difference between right or wrong … My friends and family were put
in a position where they had to defend me, and it was an awful time."
The ‘Spider-Man’ star was furious with the speculation she was being
treated for alcohol abuse at the time and insists she has never partied
more than any other girl her age.
She added to BlackBook magazine: “When you're a single girl in your
twenties, yeah, you go out with your friends. And sometimes you drink
too much. I don't know anybody else, with any type of job, who doesn't
do that.”
Although she struggled with her time in rehab, Kirsten – who can next
be seen in murder mystery movie 'All Good Things' opposite Ryan Gosling
– admits the time she spent in Cirque Lodge allowed her to reassess her
life and decide whether or not she wanted to continue working in
Hollywood.
The actress – who began appearing in TV commercials from the age of
three and landed her first film role in Woody Allen's short ‘Oedipus
Wrecks’ when she was just eight - said: "I used to assume that I'd
[continue acting] forever, and then there came a point in my life when
I was like, 'Why am I doing this at all?’ ”
