One Direction were pelted with peanuts when they performed in Doncaster yesterday (07.12.10).

The 'X Factor' boyband - Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, Liam Payne and Harry Styles - went on a UK tour to visit each of their hometowns ahead of this weekend's final, and while they received plenty of support from their many fans, they also had food thrown at them.

Zayn explained: "It was pretty crazy. There was a lot more support than I expected actually! It's nice to have support from anywhere, but when it's your own home town it means a little bit more, it's a bit more special.

"Someone threw some peanuts at us in Doncaster!"

Meanwhile, 18-year-old Louis admitted he was "shocked" at the "wild" reaction the band received when they performed at his old school.

He added to the official 'X Factor' website: "Everyone was going wild and screaming, it was a bit surreal! I kind of got on stage and I was a bit shocked."

With extra security drafted in to prevent One Direction fans from getting hurt amid all the excitement, one onlooker likened the support of the teens to that of legendary British band The Beatles.

The source said: "It's like Beatlemania, with more mania."
