Suicide Car Bomb Attack in Pakistan Kills at least 15 Tribal Elders

A car packed with explosives was detonated by a suicide bomber in the Orakzai district near the city of Peshawar in Pakistan, killing at least 15 tribal elders attending a council of local leaders.

According to reports the meeting of nearly 600 people was being held to discuss the forming of a militia to combat pro-Taliban militants in the region. While the meeting was in session a man drove his vehicle into the area and exploded the car.

Just one day earlier the tribesmen destroyed two hideouts used by the Taliban and it is believed Friday’s attack was an act of revenge.

Several tribal leaders have aligned themselves with the Pakistani military in an effort to run pro-Taliban combatants from the regions near the Afghanistan border.
