2008 ALCS Schedule Game One: Tampa Bay Rays Host Boston Red Sox in Opener

The Tampa Bay Rays continue their improbable worst-to-first run, hosting the Boston Red Sox in Game One of the best-of-seven American League Championship Series beginning on Friday. Tampa held a 10-8 advantage in their series with the Red Sox this year and were 8-1 at home in Tropicana Field.

James Shields (14-8 3.56 ERA) will be getting the start for the Rays after winning the opener against the White Sox in the ALDS. Shields was 2-2 against the Red Sox this year with both wins coming at home. The 26-year-old righty was 9-2 at home this year with an ERA of 2.59, more than two runs less than what he gave up on the road.

The Red Sox will send Daisuke Matsuzaka (18-3 2.90 ERA) to the mound following his Game Two road win against the Los Angeles Angels in the ALDS. Matsuzaka was 1-0 in his three starts against the Rays but didn’t pitch past the fifth inning of any of those games. Dice-K posted a 9-0 record on the road in 2008.

First pitch of Game One of the ALCS is scheduled to be delivered at 8:37 p.m. ET.
