Elizabeth Edwards Funeral Plans Announced

An Edwards family spokesman tells People magazine the funeral of Elizabeth Edwards is scheduled for Saturday at the Edenton Street United Methodist Church in Raleigh, North Carolina. The service begins at 1:00 p.m. and will be open to the public. More information will be posted later on elizabeth-edwards.org.

Edwards will be buried at Oakwood Cemetery beside her son Wade, who died in a car accident in 1996 at the age of 16. Edwards passed away Tuesday after a long battle with cancer. She was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2004. The disease went into remission after treatment, but returned in 2007. It had spread to her bones and lymph nodes. Earlier this week, Edwards announced the cancer spread to her liver and was no longer treatable.

Edwards is survived by her estranged husband, former vice presidential nominee John Edwards, and their three other children, Cate, Emma Claire and Jack.
