A wannabe arsonist in England has been caught after he ran into a lamppost.
Amir Ali and another man tried to set light to a pub in Crawley, West Sussex, by throwing bricks and a petrol bomb.
However, the bomb accidentally hit Ali, engulfing him in a brief fire and leading him to panic and run into a lamppost.
He later walked into a medical centre in Crawley where officers linked him to the crime, later confirmed by CCTV.
Detective constable Craig Allan said: "This was a prolonged and
difficult investigation during which the defendant consistently denied
being responsible.
"However, gradually we were able to piece it all together and today's
sentence reflects the seriousness with which the courts take this kind
of behaviour."
