AP Top 25 College Football Schedule: Notre Dame Travels to Chapel Hill to Take on #22 North Carolina Tar Heels

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish (4-1) will be looking to keep their positive season rolling on Saturday when they face the #22 North Carolina Tar Heels (4-1) in Chapel Hill on Saturday.

Notre Dame’s bounce back from a 3-9 season a year ago has been due in large part to a rejuvenated passing attack fronted by sophomore quarterback Jimmy Clausen who has thrown for more than 1,200 yards and tossed 12 TDs and a corps of receivers including sophomore Golden Tate and freshman Michael Floyd who each have three TDs.

North Carolina has also focused on the passing game as they have had to turn to junior quarterback Cameron Sexton who stepped in when T.J. Yates went down with a broken ankle. Sexton led the Tar Heels to a 38-12 victory over then #24 Connecticut last week, propelling North Carolina into the AP Top 25 for the first time in seven years.

With both teams relying on the passing game the game could be determined by how well each team can defend against the pass. The Tar Heels are ranked 58 in the country in pass defense for yards per game while the Irish sit at 91 in the same category. North Carolina’s defense is also tops in the country in interceptions with 12 while Notre Dame has picked off seven passes.

It has been awhile since Notre Dame saw their name in the AP Top 25 but a win Saturday would almost assure them a spot while North Carolina is looking to keep their name among the elite for a week longer.

Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET.
