There are many times when someone trapped in drug addiction can feel that their life is hopeless, that their situation has spiraled down to a point of no return.
“While we understand why a person may become addicted, this does not mean there is no hope,” comments Mary Rieser, Executive Director of Narconon Drug Rehab of Georgia. “We have helped many who thought their life was over, who thought that their drug addiction had no cure.
“Unfortunately, there is a theory that is in wide use today that drug addiction is a brain disease. This theory is highly debated, and, when used, places the drug addict in a state of mind in which they have no control of their life. This is not true. They can gain control of their lives, no matter how bad it gets.
“If someone, for example, were a bit overweight, there are things that they can do to lose the pounds. Following precise steps, such as watching what they eat, exercising, and setting goals, would result in them losing weight.
“It is similar with drug addiction: by following the proper steps, keeping to their commitments, and regaining their own personal sense of responsibility for their lives, they can beat drug addiction.”
These are what some of the people in the Narconon Drug Rehab Program have said:
“I realize that being at Narconon is just a moment in time and I need to use this time to readjust myself and train my life skills. I realize how this course helps me with reality and to be more focused.” GG
“When I was out there on drugs I lost my focus on life and my understanding of my family and people who I worked around. I am a good person and my family still loves me so maybe with Narconon I can go back to being the real me, the one that God made and the one my children and family want and need in their life.” DR
“I realize that I am very capable of helping others and I really enjoy being helpful. Each day my stress level is going down slowly but surely. I am really focusing on the present time and not worrying as much about the past or the future.” NS
“I have learned how to detect and overcome barriers to learning. I have also learned methods of helping others to understand what they are reading. I think that will help me a lot in teaching my boyfriend’s daughter in her reading. I have learned how to apply what I learn in real life. All of this is I am learning in drug rehab is going to help me to overcome my addiction and I think I have really learned some better ways to study.” TM
One recent graduate wrote of his experience at Narconon Drug Rehab of Georgia:
“My first day at Narconon, I sat outside on the steps with two students. They were both laughing and smiling. I could not figure out how these people were so happy and cheerful when they were in rehab. I was absolutely miserable. I wanted to get clean but I was not sure if I was going to be able to do it….
“By the end of sauna, I was able to handle the cravings and get past them. I had my biggest win from the program when I went on an LOA (Leave of Absence) with my family to the lake on July 4th.
“It was the first time in my life that I realized how much my brother, grandparents, and Dad cared about me. After a great weekend with everyone, I was riding home with my mom and I realized the past two days were the first time since I was 15 that I felt normal around normal people.
“I had always felt so crazy because I had to be high to have a good time and could not understand how other people had such a good time when they were not high. I was so jealous of any person that could have a good time clean. I thought I was going to think that way for the rest of my life so it was absolutely incredible for me to not be thinking that way.
“I was very grateful to the New Life Detoxification Program after that experience… This program has changed my life and I am very grateful for it. I have learned how to laugh and enjoy life again. I want to thank all the people who helped me along the way.” JM
