Attorney Shane P. Coleman, formerly with Witherspoon Kelley, has officially opened his new practice on the South Hill in Spokane representing both businesses and individuals in the greater Spokane area. His practice will seek to offer the quality and experience of a big law firm with the value and personal touch of a solo practitioner. Mr. Coleman is a Gonzaga Law School graduate and received in LL.M. in Taxation from the University of Washington.
Mr. Coleman began his legal career in the insurance business as in-house counsel for a national excess and surplus lines insurance company that provided insurance for hard-to-find, high risk businesses and activities. At the insurance company, he was exposed to and defended the company against a wide variety of personal injury and property claims. These claims arose from a variety of incidents including, but not limited to, simple car accidents, slip and falls, dram shop claims and wrongful death. This prior insurance experience has given Mr. Coleman a unique perspective and ability to handle personal injury cases and reach the best settlement for his clients.
After gaining experience as an attorney in the insurance field, Mr. Coleman accepted an in-house position managing litigation for a national mortgage servicer. In his role as an attorney for the servicing company, he managed and negotiated claims and lawsuits in all aspects of
consumer lending law. In addition, Shane created and implemented policies and procedures to keep the company in compliance with the strictly regulated mortgage industry.
In 2008, Mr. Coleman returned to Spokane, Washington after accepting a position with Witherspoon Kelley. His practice continued to build upon his experience in consumer lending and expanded into commercial lending. In addition to individuals, his primary clients were some of the largest regional banks in the area. In his role as attorney for these banks, he negotiated work-outs of troubled debts, drafted a variety of documents and agreements, sought collection of amounts owed to the banks, and preceded with foreclosures, replevins or garnishments where necessary. Mr. Coleman also represented the banks as their creditor's counsel in bankruptcies.
It is Mr. Coleman's desire to use his experience representing the servicing company and regional banks to provide quality representation to smaller banks, credit unions and individuals in such areas as loan modifications, forbearance agreements, asset protection, asset recovery, collections, bankruptcy and other areas of commercial and consumer lending. Mr. Coleman will also represent clients in the area of insurance defense, personal injury and estate planning.
