At a Nov. 24 ceremony, Michigan attorney Jules N. Fiani motioned for the swearing-in of a military soldier currently stationed in Kuwait. The swearing-in ceremony was conducted in Lansing via live videoconference, with its honoree, Christopher M. Horvath, stationed more than 6,000 miles away. During the live video conference, Sgt. Horvath was admitted to practice law in Michigan, as well as the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Michigan.
A graduate of the Thomas M. Cooley Law School, Sgt. Horvath received notice of his bar passage in October, but was deployed to Kuwait in mid-November for a 12-month tour of duty. Sgt. Horvath’s deployment orders rendered him unable to attend a traditional swearing-in ceremony with other members of his graduating class. However, courtesy of Skype, a live videoconference allowed Sgt. Horvath to take part in this monumental ceremony, which was attended by family, friends and Sgt. Hovarth’s new wife, Dena.
Mr. Fiani has been a friend of Sgt. Horvath’s for years and mentored the new groom in his pursuit to become an attorney. Mr. Fiani has his own firm in Howell, Michigan and focuses his practice on
criminal defense, personal injury and drunk driving cases. Also a graduate of Thomas M. Cooley Law School, Mr. Fiani was admitted to practice law in Michigan in 1978. For more information on
