AP Top 25 College Football Scores: #8 USC Trojans Blank Arizona State Despite Five Turnovers

Joe McKnight rushed for 143 yards on 11 carries and the #8 USC Trojans (4-1, 2-1) defense held the Arizona State Sun Devils (2-4, 1-2) to just 228 yards of total offense, allowed them to convert just 3-18 third down attempts and forced four turnovers including an interception returned 45-yards for a touchdown by Kevin Thomas in a 28-0 victory on Saturday.

Mark Sanchez didn’t exactly light it up for the Trojans, throwing three interceptions, but he did toss a TD pass and rushed for another. His one-yard TD run in the first quarter gave the Trojans a 7-0 lead and a 4-yard pass to Damian Williams in the second quarter boosted that lead to 14-0.

Following USC’s second score Arizona State tried to answer but Rudy Carpenter was picked off and Thomas went 45-yards for the score to give the Trojans a 21-0 advantage at halftime.

Stafon Johnson capped off the scoring for the Trojans with a 2-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.

USC will travel to Washington State next week while Arizona State faces Oregon in two weeks.
