A new life form has been discovered in the wreck of the Titanic.
The microbe - which has been named the Halomonas titanicae - grew in
samples taken from the doomed cruise liner 19 years ago by the Mir 2
robotic submarine.
The bacterium was found in the 'rusticles' which developed on the side of the ship from the rusting iron.
The finding was first announced in the International Journal of Systematic and Evolutionary Microbiology.
They are believed to be of particular interest because they may shed light on why rusticles form.
