Donovan McNabb threw for 278 yards and two touchdowns, Correll Buckhalter rushed for 93 yards and a TD and the Philadelphia Eagles (3-3) scored 23 points in the fourth quarter to send the San Francisco 49ers (2-4) to their third straight loss 40-26 on Sunday.
Philadelphia looked to be in control for most of the first half as Buckhalter had a one-yard touchdown run, McNabb tossed a 2-yard touchdown pass to Hank Baskett and David Akers added a field goal as the Eagles built a 17-6 lead. San Fran cut their deficit to 17-9 when Joe Nedney kicked his third field goal of the half with 29 seconds left and when Philly tried a field goal as the half was ending San Fran blocked the kick and Donald Strickland went 41 yards for the touchdown.
Frank Gore then gave the 49ers the lead 23-17 early in the third quarter with a 6-yard touchdown run and Nedney added a 29-yard field goal to give San Fran a nine-point advantage heading into the fourth quarter.
McNabb brought the Eagles to within two when he hit L.J. Smith on a 2-yard touchdown pass and Akers gave them a 27-26 lead with a 38-yard field goal. After 49ers quarterback J.T. O’Sullivan was picked off Akers booted a 25-yard field goal. O’Sullivan then fumbled on San Francisco’s next possession and that resulted in Akers third field goal of the quarter and a 33-26 advantage for Philly. O’Sullivan was then picked off and Juqua Parker returned it 55 yards for a touchdown to seal the game.
