L.A. Wildfires Continue to Blaze, Two Dead and Dozens of Homes Destroyed

Strong winds and dry conditions have continued to fuel at least three wildfires that have consumed nearly 12,000 acres near the San Fernando Valley and Oceanside in California.

At least two deaths have been attributed to the Los Angeles wildfires while several dozens of homes have been destroyed as strong Santa Ana winds have made fighting the blaze difficult.

Around the northeast end of the San Fernando Valley more than 4,700 acres have been destroyed by what is being called the Marek Fire while on the western end of the valley the Sesnon Fire has destroyed more than 5,000 acres.

California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has sent more than 1,000 firefighters to battle the wildfires that have caused thousands of residents to evacuate.

A third fire in Camp Pendleton has forced more than 1,400 residents to evacuate.

With winds whipping at 60 mph firefighters have had difficulty containing the blazes and made efforts to douse the flames by helicopter futile.
