Thom Beers, Producer of “Deadliest Catch”, “Monster Garage”, and “America’s Toughest Jobs”, the Special Guest on New Episode of Dave Navarro’s Spread TV

On an all new maniaTV.com episode of Dave Navarro’s Spread TV, Dave and Todd spend time with television director and narrator, Thom Beers to talk about the history of his career, his various hit television series, and his new comic book, Chopper Zombies. Beers is best known for his work producing some of the most recognizable shows on the Discovery Channel family of networks, including Deadliest Catch, Monster Garage, Axe Men, and Ice Truckers. His newest series, America’s Toughest Jobs, which premiered August 25th on NBC, is a competition series where each week 13 men and women must work on physically demanding jobs. Each week a contestant is eliminated if his or her work is not up to par, and the last remaining worker receives the combined annual salaries of the jobs in the competition.

Dave, Todd, and Thom begin the show discussing the history behind his “toughest jobs” idea that generally summarizes the various themes of his many hit series. As Beers explains, the premise of each show comes primarily from a “wanderlust and insanity that allows him to travel around the world to look at things a little differently, and figure out how to make a TV show”.

The interview continues as Dave and Todd get an inside look into Thom’s new show, America’s Toughest Jobs, the liabilities associated with placing inexperienced people into dangerous occupations, and why the women on his shows tend to show more heart and soul than their male counterparts. The discussion ends with a look at Thom’s newest comic book, Chopper Zombies; set to release as a feature film sometime in the near future.

About Thom Beers

Thom Beers’ passion for honoring every day heroes and his gift for telling their stories has firmly established his non-fiction brand, Original Productions, as television’s number one creator of honest-to-goodness unscripted reality programming. The driving force behind multi-Primetime Emmy® nominated “Deadliest Catch,” and “Ice Road Truckers,” and top-rated shows “Axemen,” “Monster Garage,” and NBC’s Fall 2008 “America’s Toughest Jobs,” Beers has created a unique brand of television programming featuring unheralded heroes in high risk, high reward situations. His catalogue of more than 40 series is firmly entrenched across cable powerhouses Discovery Communications Networks, History, WeTV, SPIKE TV, The National Geographic Channel, TruTV and TLC among others. Not one to let the grass grow under his feet, Beers will debut his first graphic novel, “Chopper Zombie” at Comic Con 2008. Created by Beers, co-written with Todd Livingston and illustrated by Scott Keating, the book follows the fate of brilliant motorcycle builder, Taz, who refuses to sell his formula for a new super-fuel to a dangerous corporation. When a team of thugs drowns him in his own toxic creation, he rises from the dead with a score to settle. As a follow-up to the book, Original Productions is now in development on a feature film.
