A desperate Queens pot dealer was charged with attempting to kill a police officer after he ran a cop over who tried to bust him for selling him marijuana, officials said Saturday.
According to police, Martin Garcia, 25, sold a $100 bag of weed to an undercover officer during a buy and bust operation in Flushing, New York. After the drug sale was done, the officer radioed for a team to swoop in and make the arrest.
Moments later, an unmarked cop car pulled up in front of Garcia's parked car and blocked him in. With three officers closing in to make the arrest, Garcia stepped on the gas and jumped a curb in an attempt to flee. Garcia then drove down the sidewalk and ran over Detective Cleland Francis, who suffered two broken legs and a broken right ankle,
Garcia was later apprehended and charged with felony seven counts, including attempted murder, assaulting a police officer and sale of marijuana. The charges could land Garcia in prison for 25 years to life.
"The defendant is accused of serious felonies - including attempting to murder a police officer who was simply doing his job," said Queens District Attorney Richard Brown. "This case will be vigorously prosecuted."
