Father of Casey Anthony Testifies Before Florida Grand Jury in Caylee Anthony Case
George Anthony, the father of 22-year-old Casey Anthony, was inside the Orange County Courthouse in Florida on Tuesday testifying before a grand jury about details involving the disappearance of his granddaughter, Caylee Anthony.
The grand jury is trying to determine if there is enough evidence to pursue a manslaughter or murder charge against Casey Anthony.
She is suspected of killing her two-year-old daughter but has denied the allegations and has maintained that she dropped two-year-old Caylee off with a babysitter and when she returned both her daughter and the woman were gone.
Casey failed to notify police about her daughter’s disappearance for nearly a month and only did so after her mother warned she would go to the police herself. She then told investigators about the babysitter but it was later determined by investigators that there never was a babysitter.
Police charged Casey Anthony with lying to investigators and child neglect and placed her behind bars where she stayed for a month before being bailed out. She has been back and out again but now faces possible murder charges as police continue to gather evidence that supports that belief.
On Tuesday her father was subpoenaed to testify about a smell coming from the trunk of a car Casey had been driving. DNA evidence has shown there was human decomposition in the trunk of the car and that was the source of the strong odor. Casey Anthony has blamed the smell on a dead animal.
