Narconon Explains Why Users Turn Into Dealers

Successful drug rehab program shares why so many addicted fall into the trap of dealing drugs.

Drugs are related to crime in many different ways. One of the direct ways is through the use, possession and distribution of them. Statistics indicate that more than 80% of crime involves drugs in some way; whether the abuser was under the influence at the time of the crime or committed the crime as a result of drugs.

The Office of the National Drug Control Policy indicates that an average of 3% of all crime is a result of the possession or sale of drugs. However many more addicts turn to dealing as a means of maintaining their own habits as their addictions grow more and more severe.

One recovered heroin addict, Rebecca, had to turn to dealing when she could no longer support her heroin addiction. “Being a female in the drug world, there are only a few options when it comes to supporting one's habit,” she says. “When I learned that my paycheck would only support two or three days of my habit, I chose to sell drugs. In my case, I found myself dealing weed, heroin, and crack to help support my own habit. I didn't do it because I was out to get anyone or harm the people I sold to; I did it because it was a way to make money, maintain my habit, and it wasn't stealing.”

As dealing drugs is one of the most destructive crimes of man it is difficult for many to consider ever doing something that would do so much damage to others. Unfortunately, as Rebecca explains, “None of it is looked upon favorably. And all of it is destructive to the addict and those around them.”

Thankfully Rebecca was able to stop using and dealing drugs thanks to the Narconon drug rehab program. Narconon explains that a high percentage of addicts often turn to dealing as one way to support their habits. To handle this Narconon helps addicts regain control of their lives through treatment and then helps them to restore their moral code through making up the damage that they have caused to society as a result of addiction.

“One of the key elements of Narconon treatment is having addicts really take responsibility,” says Derry Hallmark Certified Chemical Dependency Counselor and Senior Director for Expansion for Narconon Arrowhead. “Deep down people are basically good and they feel guilty for doing things that they know will hurt others. Narconon drug treatment gets to the root of this and helps put addicts on the road to survival in all areas of their lives.”

It is easy for addicts to fall into the trap of dealing drugs but through drug rehabilitation they can not only handle their addictions but also become productive, ethical and contributing members of society instead of those who destroy it.
