The Dallas Cowboys acquired wide receiver Roy Williams from the Detroit Lions right before the 2008 trade deadline on Tuesday.
The Cowboys will give up a first-round pick in 2009, plus a third- and sixth-rounder that year for Williams and a seventh-round pick in '09. Prior to the trade, there were rumors that Williams was unhappy with the Lions.
The Cowboys are also trying to negotitate a long-term deal with Williams before completing the deal. Williams is seen as another strong option for quarterback Tony Romo and a possible replacement for the aging Terrell Owens.
Williams will be the second Roy Williams on the team after the All-Pro safety. While in college, the two faced each other in a heated rivalry as the wide receiver played for the Texas Longhorns and the safety for the Oklahoma Sooners.
Williams was selected 7th overall (the second receiver taken) in the 2004 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions. He was named to the 2006 Pro Bowl, when he led the NFC with 1,310 yards and caught 7 touchdowns.
This is the second big move for the Cowboys on Tuesday. Cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones was suspended indefinitely by the NFL for his violation of the conduct policy after a Dallas hotel fight.
