Nepal’s former Crown Prince has admitted firing a gun after a drunken row with tourists in a restaurant.
Paras Shah -full name Paras Bir Bikram Shah Dev - the former heir to
the now abolished throne, has admitted to setting off the firearm after
a late-night drinking session in a jungle holiday resort in the country.
Mr. Shah, 39 – who was unpopular with Napalis for his playboy lifestyle
and drunken nights out – admitted in a statement that two guests at the
luxury Tiger Tops resort in the Chitwan national park "said negative
things about my former role and the institution I represented".
He then confessed: "When my family and all the guests had left the
restaurant, I fired one bullet in the air because I could not tolerate
the insult upon me and my country."
A witness – who had to be escorted out by security staff when the
former prince started shouting at guests - told news agency AFP: “I
don't know what the discussion was about, but he was pretty annoyed. He
was shouting and then he went outside and fired a round."
Paras moved to Singapore in 2008 when his father, the unpopular former
king Gyanendra, lost the throne. He has now returned to Nepal where his
wife recently launched a fund to help deprived women and children.
His cousin Prince Dipendra gunned down nine relatives in a drunken rampage in 2001 before killing himself.
