Paras Shah, the former crown prince of Nepal, was arrested Tuesday for after firing a pistol at Rubel Chaudhary, the son-in-law of Deputy Prime Minister Sujata Koirala. The incident happened Saturday at a Chitwan wildlife resort after the two men had an argument. There were no injuries.
"The ex-prince took out a pistol and started to open fire, accusing the Koirala family of conspiring to abolish the monarchy in this country," Chaudhary claimed.
Although Shah is suspected of similar crimes in the past as well as killing a singer nearly a decade ago, this is his first arrest. He is facing charges of firing a pistol in a public place and making threats. Shah was taken in to custody in the tourist resort of Pokhara.
Shah, 39, and the other members of the royal family became commoners when Nepal abolished the monarchy in 2008.
