The driver was filmed veering towards the snowman on the opposite side of the road from where he had been driving before plowing into it and destroying it.
Video of the incident was posted on YouTube and the driver is believed to have resigned after officials with the local travel authority saw the video.
Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District spokeswoman Jan Kijowski confirmed the driver had quit but refused to identify him.
