Beijing architectural graduate Dai Haifei built the egg shaped home in a courtyard outside his office when he couldn't afford rent installing solar panels and attaching insulation.
However a representative with the Haidian District Urban Management Division said the structure was built without a permit and dismantled it earlier this month.
Mr. Haifei - who had borrowed nearly $1,000 from family to build his home - has now moved in with friends.
