For the second time in less than a week, an armed motorcyclist made off with an estimated $ 1.5 million dollars in casino chips, this time from the one of the most famous - and heavily guarded - casinos in the world, the Bellagio on the Las Vegas strip.
With nerves of steel, the man parked his motorcycle outside by the valet and strutted to a craps table full of gamblers, and pulled a gun on the croupier, demanded the chips and fled the casino. The whole episode took less than three minutes. Police commented that the robbery was 'about as quick as you can do it'.
According to Las Vegas Police, at 3:50 AM on Monday morning (12-13-2010) the suspect entered the casino and went directly to a craps table and confronted several patrons with a firearm - telling everyone not to move'.
And it was still not clear why security did not apprehend the man immediately - though there was speculation guards feared to trigger a confrontation with an armed and desperate man in the middle of the casino. As it all happened so fast, they may simply not have had time.
Chips
are usually unique to casino properties and are not interchangeable.
The chips taken from the Bellagio robbery ranged in value from $100 to $25,000. Authorities plan to watch for anyone trying to cash high-value Bellagio chips.
The robber ran back out of his casino following his original route and jumped on his motorcycle and exited westbound on Highway 15 at a high rate of speed.
