Narconon Explains The Dangers of Alcohol During The Holiday Seasons

Narconon Arrowhead discusses safe alternatives to drinking and to help protect you and your family from any alcohol related incidents this holiday season.

The holiday season can be a dangerous time for anyone sharing the road with someone who is driving under the influence. Data released from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reveals that the daily death toll from drunken driving crashes during the Christmas and New Year's holiday periods is significantly more than for the rest of the year.

During this time, there are even people who do not usually drink, that will tend to indulge, and without thinking, get behind the wheel. As a result, they can be pulled over, get into legal difficulties or, even worse, hurt themselves or someone else.

"The consequences of driving drunk are serious and real,” said National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Nicole R. Nason, “Not only do you risk killing yourself or someone else, but the trauma and financial costs of a crash or an arrest for driving drunk can be overwhelming."

Narconon Arrowhead, one of the largest and most successful drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs in the world offers advice during the holidays to help keep the public safe. The center explains that although saying “no” to alcohol can be difficult for some individuals during the Holiday season, it is the surest way to prevent any alcohol related incidents, especially when driving.

Unfortunately, there is little you can do about others on the road who have been drinking and now driving.  Preventative measures should be taken to ensure you and your family’s safety. If you do see someone on the road that appears to be intoxicated, Narconon recommends that you get in contact with your local law enforcement authorities to get it reported.

"Drunk driving is a major public safety threat that still claims thousands of lives every year," said U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood, in a media statement. "Many states continue to step up their efforts to get drunk drivers off our roads, but the numbers tell us we have to do more."

Narconon also suggests that if you or someone you know is abusing alcohol the best thing to do is to make sure that they get the help they need through rehabilitation.

“Alcohol abuse can be just as dangerous as drug abuse,” says Derry Hallmark, Certified Chemical Dependency Counselor and Senior Director for Expansion for Narconon Arrowhead. “Narconon offers solutions for those struggling with alcohol addiction and their families and our facility is going to have counselors on hand throughout the holiday season to help those in need.”
