Joerg Haider, Leader of Alliance for Austria’s Future, Said to be Drunk at Time of Deadly Accident

Joerg Haider, the founder and leader of Austria’s far-right political party Alliance for Austria’s Future, was said to be drunk at the time of his fatal car accident last Saturday.

Haider was said to be traveling at twice the 40 mph speed limit when his car crashed and overturned in Carinthia where he had been provincial governor. According to reports Haider had been leaving a night club and his blood alcohol level had been well above the legal limit.

The 58-year-old was a polarizing figure in Austria due to his strong anti-immigration and anti-EU policies beliefs.
