Mother of Casey Anthony Maintains Belief that Granddaughter Caylee Anthony Still Alive

One day after Casey Anthony was indicted on first-degree murder charges related to the disappearance of her three-year-old daughter Caylee Anthony, Cindy Anthony, the mother of Casey, has continued to express her belief that the young girl is still alive.

Speaking to TODAY’s Meredith Vieira on Wednesday Cindy Anthony dismissed any idea that Casey had harmed Caylee saying, “I know my daughter. There is nothing in this world that could make me believe that Casey did anything to Caylee. There has never been any child neglect, child abuse or anything. This young lady loves her child, more than I love Casey.”

A 19-member federal grand jury found that there had been enough evidence to charge Casey Anthony with charges of first-degree murder, manslaughter, aggravated child abuse and other charges.

Caylee Anthony reportedly disappeared sometime in the middle of June but Casey didn’t report her missing until July. She told investigators that she had dropped her daughter, who was two-years-old at the time, off with a babysitter and when she returned both were gone.

When that story couldn’t be proven investigators turned their attention on Casey and found DNA evidence in the trunk of a car she had been driving that supported the belief that Caylee had been killed. Investigators found chloroform in the vehicle, hair and an odor was later determined to be that of human decomposition.

Despite all the evidence against her daughter Cindy Anthony maintained, “I know Caylee is alive.” She pointed to the numerous reported sightings of Caylee and said, “I know in my heart that we are going to find Caylee before this trial takes place.”
