Janet Jackson's Mystery Illness Diagnosed as Vestibular Migraines

Janet Jackson has been diagnosed with vestibular migraines, according to a statement from her rep on Wednesday.

Jackson was hospitalized last week while on her Rock Witchu Tour stop in Montreal. She apparently got sick during a sound check prior to her scheduled performance in Montreal. She was rushed to Royal Victoria Hospital and released a few hours later.

At the time of her hospitalization, reports said she was hospitalized for an "unknown illness". However, days later, her brother Randy made a comment on a Michael Jackson fan site, stating that his youngest sister Janet had a bout with vertigo. "Janet is doing okay, she suffers from vertigo," said Randy.

However, on Wednesday, it was revealed that Jackson had vestibular migraines, which have been described as migraines that create the sensation of vertigo. The diagnosis affirms her brother Randy's previous comments.

Jackson was forced to cancel several shows due to the illness. She canceled a show in Greensboro on Oct. 4, one in Atlanta on Oct. 5 and another on Oct. 7 in Fort Lauderdale. Jackson, who is on her first North American tour in seven years, previously canceled concerts in Boston and Philadelphia on Oct. 1 and Oct. 2.

She is scheduled to resume her Rock Witchu Tour Wednesday night at the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C. Jackson's show at Madison Square Garden, originally slated for Thursday, has been rescheduled for Nov. 1.

New dates for the other postponed concerts are being worked out and will be announced shortly, her rep said.

This was not the first time Jackson has missed appearances this year. In September, she called off a concert in Detroit due to "production restraints," local media said. In April, while promoting Discipline, Jackson missed an appearance on "Saturday Night Live" due to bronchitis, according to MTV News.
