Oklahoma State offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen will be the next head coach at West Virginia.
While current coach Bill Stewart will remain on for the 2011 season, Holgorsen will be coach-in-waiting and step up in 2012. West Virginia officials believe the hiring will excite a fan base that has been rather unimpressed with the team’s 27-11 record over the past 3 seasons.
"Coach Holgorsen is one of the top coaches in college football,” West Virginia athletic director Oliver Luck said in a team statement. “... I cannot imagine a better combination of offensive and defensive coordinators in Dana Holgorsen and Jeff Casteel working for Coach Stewart. Mountaineer football is in the best of hands."
It is reported that the deal is for six years, with Holgorsen making $800,000 in 2011 and $1.4 million plus incentives in 2012.
Holgorsen became a hot commodity after his first-year Cowboys offense put up explosive numbers this season. Oklahoma State finished the regular season ranked third nationally in scoring offense and first nationally in total offense.
