The Drums were planning to record a "desolate record in a desolate town" for their second album.
The US band had developed a romantic ideal of living in a small
Midwestern town together to write their next album, but gave up their
plans after they realised they were likely get snowed in.
Singer Jonathan Pierce told BANG Showbiz: "We actually considered going
to a friend's house in Montana and staying there and working there.
"We were travelling across America on our first US tour and we fell in
love with just the desolate Midwest and thought it would be an
interesting place to go and write a desolate record in a desolate town.
"Then we realised it would be January and it would be snowing and a lot
of these places have strange winters and people said we would be snowed
in and having to wear snow shoes. No."
The group - which also includes Connor Hanwick, Jacob Graham and live
guitarist Tom Haslow - have previously said they wrote their best song
to date the day after the departure of guitarist Adam Kessler from the
band earlier this year.
Jonathan said: "The next day the three of us got together, went to the
studio that day and wrote and recorded what I hope to be the first song
on our next album.
"We really feel like it's the best song that we've ever written. It was
a pretty emotional day for all of us. I mean, losing a band member and
then coming out the other side of it with this incredible song."
The Drums latest single, 'Me And The Moon / Down By the Water' is out now.
