AP Top 25 College Football Schedule: #3 Penn State Nittany Lions Battle Michigan Wolverines in Big 10 Rivalry
The #3 Penn State Nittany Lions will host the Michigan Wolverines in a heated Big Ten rivalry on Saturday at 4:30pm EST.
Penn State (7-0, 2-0 Big Ten) has been unsuccessful against Michigan since joining the Big Ten in 1993. The Nittany Lions have yet to beat the Wolverines since 1996. PSU head coach Joe Paterno is 3-10 against Michigan.
The Nittany Lions have won all seven games by an average of 34.3 points, by far the largest margin in the country. Penn State tops the Big Ten in every major offensive category, except passing offense in which they are second to Illinois. Nationally, Penn State is seventh in scoring offense, ninth in total offense and 12th in rushing offense.
Penn State is led by quarterback Daryll Clark, who leads the conference and is 11th in the nation with a 160.6 passer rating. Clark has 16 total touchdowns (10 passing) and has thrown only two interceptions.
He is joined by Evan Royster and Stephon Green in the backfield and the triumvirate of Deon Butler, Jordan Norwood and Derrick Williams as his receiving corps.
On the contrary, Michigan (2-4, 1-1 Big Ten) has the worst offense in the Big Ten, ranking dead last in total offense and scoring offense. Freshmen Steven Threet and Sam McGuffie have had their bright spots this season, but UM head coach Rich Rodriguez's spread offense has had issues being effective this season.
This is not great news for Michigan as they face Penn State, which is first in the Big 10 in every major defensive category as well.
