Physical Therapist Finds Cure to Slow Economy

Postcards turn into new patients for Rhode Island practice

Even for those in the medical field, it can be difficult to diagnose and treat the cause behind slow business. Yet that’s exactly what Michael Nula, owner of Elite Physical Therapy, did.

By using statistics to track his marketing, Nula discovered that when he increased the number of postcards he mailed out, more patients came into his practice.

Since starting with his marketing firm, PostcardMania, in 2005 he has been satisfied with the results. But in 2008, he noticed his inflow of new patients flat lining. To reverse this, PostcardMania recommended increasing his outflow of postcards to prospects. Although it seemed counterintuitive, he decided to try it.

"There was a very clear statistical significance six weeks from increasing our outflow,” he reports. “We [started] to see an increase in new patients."

From then on he’s been a firm believer in increasing marketing during the tough times — and Elite Physical Therapy has done just fine through the recession.

“Outflow (marketing) has a direct effect on inflow (new clients or patients). That is a principle we understand and implement at PostcardMania,” says Founder and CEO Joy Gendusa. “I built my business on it, and I advise all my clients to do the same.”

With 47,000+ clients, it’s a principle that seems to be working across all industry lines.
