According to reports, the cause of death was pneumonia and cancer.
Adams, the wife of comedian Ernie Kovacs, was born Elizabeth Edith Enke in 1927 in Kingston, Pa. She graduated from the Julliard School of Music and the Columbia School of Drama, and soon became the sexy spokeswoman for Muriel cigars.

Also in 1957, Adams won a Tony for best featured (supporting) actress in a musical for her role as Daisy Mae in "Li'l Abner," based on Al Capp's satirical comic strip.
She also played the secretary to philandering businessman Fred MacMurray in "The Apartment," the 1960 Oscar winner for best picture.
In 1962, Kovacs died in a car accident. After years of personal turmoil and custody battles, Adams won the custody of Betty and Kippie, Kovacs' daughters from a previous marriage. She and Kovacs had a daughter, Mia, in 1959.
She was later married briefly to photographer Martin Mills and trumpeter Pete Candoli.
