Kelly Pavlik and Bernard Hopkins are separated by 17 years but on Saturday evening there will be nothing between the two but a referee and the prospect of 12-rounds of boxing as the two warriors do battle at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City.
Pavlik (34-0 30KOs), 26, has already said he was looking to get an early knockout against Hopkins (48-5-1 32KOs), 43, but that could be difficult as the legendary fighter has never fallen victim to a KO.
While Pavlik is the current middleweight champion his title won’t be on the line as he stepped up to light-heavyweight for the bout with Hopkins.
Hopkins is no stranger to the middleweight class as he dominated the division for a decade, defending his title a record 20 times during his span as champion. He moved up to the light-heavyweight division and collected the title after earning a decision over Antonio Tarver and defended the title successfully against Winky Wright before losing a controversial decision to Joe Calzaghe.
Saturday’s fight will be at 170-pounds, the undercard will begin at 6:30 p.m. ET.
