Russian Troops Ambushed by Muslim Separatists in Ingushetia

An ambush on a military convoy in the southern region of Ingushetia has killed at least two Russian soldiers and wounded seven more according to Russian officials.

Reports have indicated the convoy was ambushed near Nazran, the capital of the north Caucasus region and was hit with grenades and machine gun fire. While Russian officials have placed the number of dead at two other sources have said as many as 40 were killed.

Ingushetia borders on Chechnya and has been a volatile territory often used by Islamic militants to launch attacks against Russian troops. Russia and Chechnya have had a long history of conflict as Muslim separatists have launched several attacks against Russian military personnel in the region.
