ALCS Game Six: Boston Red Sox Look to Force Game Seven as Tampa Bay Rays Try to Punch World Series Ticket

After staging an historic Game Five comeback in which they overcame a seven run deficit in the seventh inning the Boston Red Sox will look to collect their second win in a row and force a Game Seven as they face the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday in their best-of-seven ALCS.

The Red Sox will send Josh Beckett (12-10 4.03 ERA) to the mound and hope he bounces back from a disappointing Game Two performance in which he allowed eight runs and nine hits in 4 1/3 innings in Tampa. Prior to Game Two the right hander had tremendous success pitching at Tropicana Park allowing just three runs in 15 innings.

While Beckett has been considered one of the most dominant pitchers in postseason over the best decade he has struggled in 2008, losing his only start in the ALDS to the Angels before being battered by the Rays in his first game of the ALCS. He has allowed 12 runs and 18 hits in 9 1/3 innings and five home runs thus far.

Tampa will counter with Game One starter James Shields (14-8 3.56 ERA) who took the loss in the opener despite allowing just two runs over 7 1/3 innings. Shields hasn’t lost back-to-back games since early June and was sensational over the last two months of the season in which the Rays went 8-3 in his starts.

First pitch of Game Six is scheduled to be delivered at 8:07 p.m. ET.
