Graham Harrell threw for 449 yards and three touchdowns and added two TDs on the ground, Michael Crabtree had 71 yards receiving and a pair of TDs and Baron Batch rushed for 88 yards and a TD on 13 carries and added a touchdown reception as the #7 Texas Tech Red Raiders (7-0, 3-0) staged a huge second half to drop the Texas A&M Aggies (2-5, 0-3) 43-25 on Saturday in a Big 12 showdown.
The Aggies were the first on the board as they took the opening drive down the field and settled for a 46-yard field goal from Randy Bullock but the Red Raiders responded and on the sixth play of their drive Harrell hit Crabtree on a 25-yard touchdown pass to take a 7-3 lead. Despite the Texas Tech TD the Aggies weren’t shaken as they put together a drive that ate up nearly seven minutes and ended with a 3-yard TD toss from Stephen McGee to Ryan Tannehill.
With defense seemingly taking the day off the Texas Tech Red Raiders marched down the field after the Aggies TD and reclaimed the lead on Batch’s 3-yard run but the extra point was blocked to leave the score at 13-10. Texas A&M then put a pair of field goals on the board to lead 16-13 but Harrell found Batch on an 8-yard TD pass to move the Red Raiders in front 20-16. Texas A&M didn’t appear rattled though as they managed to find the endzone with just 23 seconds left in the half as Mike Goodson scored from a yard out and the Aggies went into the break with an impressive 23-20 advantage.
That all changed in the second half as Texas Tech came out and quickly set the tone as Harrell hit Crabtree on a 3-yard touchdown pass to take the lead for good at 27-23. The Red Raiders would add a field goal in the third quarter to carry a 30-23 lead into the fourth quarter.
Harrell then scored on the ground with a one-yard plunge but once again the extra-point was blocked and the Aggies returned it for two points. That didn’t seem to faze the Red Raiders though as they took their next possession down the field and finished the game off with another one-yard run from Harrell.
Texas Tech will travel to take on Kansas next week while Texas A&M travels to Iowa State.
