Knowshon Moreno rushed for 172 yards and a touchdown, A.J. Green had 132 yards receiving and a TD and Matt Stafford threw for 194 yards and a pair of TDs as the #10 Georgia Bulldogs (6-1, 3-1) knocked off the #22 Vanderbilt Commodores (5-2, 3-2) 24-14 on Saturday to keep their share of the lead in the SEC East.
The Bulldogs got on the board late in the first quarter when Stafford hit Green on a 17-yard touchdown pass in the corner of the endzone and Georgia extended their lead late in the second quarter on a Stafford to Mohamed Massaquoi 9-yard toss for a 14-0 lead. Vanderbilt answered with a late drive of their own and after Mackenzi Adams hit Jamie Graham on an 18-yard touchdown pass the Bulldogs lead was trimmed to 14-7 at halftime.
Georgia came out in the third quarter and used Moreno to pound away at the Commodores and the sophomore running back gave the Bulldogs a 21-7 advantage after scoring from 11-yards out. Once again the Commodores answered though as Adams and Graham hooked up for a second time, this one an 8-yard toss and Vandy was within 21-14 heading into the fourth quarter.
Georgia had a chance to put the game away midway through the final frame but Blair Walsh missed a 37-yard field goal that gave Vanderbilt one more shot but the Bulldogs defense stopped the Commodores on downs. Walsh then got a second chance to seal the game and with 17 seconds left he hit a 39-yarder for the final points.
Georgia will travel to LSU next week while Vandy looks to bounce back against Duke.
