AP Top 25 College Football Scores: Maryland Terrapins Embarrass #21 Wake Forest, Grab a Piece of ACC Lead

Chris Turner threw for 321 yards and a touchdown, Da’Rel Scott rushed for 73 yards and tossed a TD, and Darrius Heyward-Bey had 101 yards receiving and a score as the Maryland Terrapins (5-2, 2-1) held the #21 Wake Forest Demon Deacons (4-2, 2-1) to just 219 yards of total offense in a 26-0 blanking in ACC action on Saturday.

Maryland scored touchdowns on their opening drive of the game and their second to last possession of the game with four field goals by Obi Egekeze sandwiched in between. Their opening TD came on a 9-yard toss from Scott to Heyward-Bey for a 7-0 lead. Egekeze then booted field goals of 40 and 39-yrads in the second quarter to give the Terrapins a 13-0 lead at halftime.

Egekeze then kicked another pair of field goals in the third quarter to lift the Maryland lead to 19-0 and the score remained the same until Turner hit Danny Oquendo on a 50-yard touchdown pass with just over four minutes left in the game.

With the win Maryland joins Florida State and Wake atop the ACC East with 2-1 conference records.

Maryland will host N.C. State next week while Wake travels to Miami.
