The former leader of the Pagans motorcycle gang Steven "Gorilla" Mondevergine, waived his right to a hearing Friday (12-17-2010) and agreed to be extradited from New Jersey to Philadelphia, where he faces attempted murder and assault charges.
During a brief hearing in Gloucester County Superior Court. Mondevergine told Judge Walter Marshall "I just want to get back to Philly,"
Judge Marshall ordered that Mondevergine be turned over to Philadelphia authorities within the next 10 days. He has been held in the county jail since his arrest Wednesday on a warrant issued by the Philadelphia District Attorney's Office.
A former associate of jailed mob boss Joseph "Skinny Joey" Merlino, Mondevergine is charged with shooting and stabbing Timothy "Casual" Flood in January 2008. The stabbing occurred at the Pagans clubhouse in Northeast Philadelphia and stemmed from a dispute within the outlaw motorcycle club, according to authorities.
Flood, 48, was shot in a knee and stabbed in the back. At first he refused to identify who had shot him. Indications are that Flood may now be cooperating.
Mondevergine lost his standing in the gang after he was jailed on a federal racketeering charge in 2001. He served a 27-month sentence.
A former police officer, Mondevergine was attempting to reestablish himself with the Pagans, according to law enforcement sources, when he confronted Flood, who apparently was part of a group that did not want Mondevergine to return.
Mondevergine, 55, was arrested Wednesday at an apartment in the Turnersville section of Washington Township where he has been living.
The burly former biker boss, his arms heavily tattooed, appeared in court Friday dressed in an orange prison T-shirt and sweatpants, handcuffed and shackled at the ankles.
