Soul singer Dee Dee Warwick died Saturday at a nursing home in Essex County, New Jersey. A family spokesman said that the singer had been in failing health for the past several months. The exact cause of death was not disclosed. She was 63.
Warwick, who was known for her solo work and performances with her sister Dionne Warwick, was the niece of gospel singer Cissy Houston and cousin of pop singer Whitney Houston. She sang backup for Aretha Franklin before launching her solo career.
The two-time Grammy Award nominee had several hits on the charts including ‘Foolish Fool,’ ‘She Didn’t Know (She Kept on Talking),’ and ‘I’m Gonna Make You Love Me.’
Warwick is survived by her older sister Dionne.
