The Texas Longhorns remain the top-ranked team in the USA Today Coaches Poll Top 25 college football rankings.
After defeating their archrivals, the Oklahoma Sooners, two weeks ago, the Longhorns followed up with a key victory against #11 Missouri Tigers, 56-31, on Saturday. Texas will take on #8 Oklahoma State, then the #6 Texas Tech Red Raiders in arguably the toughest schedule stretch in college football.
The Sooners bounced back from the Texas loss, defeating then-#15 Kansas Jayhawks, 45-31. Oklahoma is now #5.
#2 Alabama Crimson Tide survived a late-game scare by the Mississippi Rebels by defeating them 24-20, while #3 Penn State Nittany Lions end a nine-game losing streak against Michigan Wolverines as they won 46-17.
Overall, nine ranked teams lost this past weekend, six of which vaulted them out of the USA Today Coaches Poll: Michigan State Spartans, Virginia Tech Hokies, Wake Forest Demon Deacons, North Carolina Tar Heels, California Golden Bears and Vanderbilt Commodores. Each of these teams, except Michigan State and Vandy, lost to an unranked opponent.
