Six People Dead in Sashimi Knife Rampage

A South Korean man went on a stabbing rampage with a Sashimi knife Monday in southern Seoul. The man, identified by only his surname Jeong, set first to his low-budget hotel room before stabbing five residents to death and wounding seven others. Another person died after jumping out of a window to escape the fire.

Jeong, 31, was arrested that the scene. He told authorities that he didn’t want to live because “everybody looks down on me.” Two more knives and a tear gas gun was found on Jeong.

Investigators say the suspect’s “livelihood was difficult and (he) has been under considerable financial pressure.” He was also facing investigation for not participating in annual military reservists training.

Jeong reportedly has a criminal background. Police have not confirmed reports that he has been convicted of eight other crimes.
